Crediting Canada BACS 38th Annual Conference Canada House London / Eccles Centre for American Studies 4-5 April 2013 Call for Papers The British Association for Canadian Studies’ Literature Group is pleased to issue the following Call for Papers for the 2013 BACS conference. We encourage contributions on any facet of the topic of Crediting Canada in relation to Canadian literary and cultural study. Proposals for 20-minute papers, to be presented in either English or French, would be particularly welcome in the areas of literary representations of and/or engagement with:
- Capitalism and economics
- Anti-capitalism
- Resistance and revolution
- Neo-liberalism
- Globalisation
- Alternative economies
- Prosperity and poverty
- Class
- Symbolic capitals
- Debtors and indebtedness
- Debt, credit, and the environment
- Economics of publishing and cultural production
· Critical/creative explorations of ‘crediting’ as a notion The conference will take place in London over three days beginning with an opening evening reception and keynote address at the refurbished Canada House on Trafalgar Square. The second day will feature additional keynotes and panels related to the conference themes at Canada House. The final day of the conference will be held at the Eccles Centre of the British Library with panels related to the conference themes or to the wider field of Canadian studies. Email abstract(s) of 200–300 words and brief CV (please do not exceed one side of A4) which must include your title, institutional affiliation, email and mailing address by 30 November 2012. Submissions will be acknowledged by email. Postgraduate students are especially welcome to submit a proposal and there will be a concessionary conference fee for students. BACS regrets that it is unable to assist participants with travel and accommodation costs. The deadline for paper or panel proposals is Friday 30 November 2012. Le Groupe de recherches et d’études sur le Canada francophone
Founded in 1979, le Groupe de recherches et d’études sur le Canada francophone is the oldest of the BACS Specialist groups. The main objective of Le GRECF is to bring together academics and graduate students engaged in the study of Quebecand francophone Canada.In 2006 the group broadened its scope and audience, with an international conference on Robert Lepage, The local, the global, and interdisciplinary performance in the works of Robert Lepage/Proximité, ouverture et relations interdisciplinaires dans l’oeuvre de Robert Lepage,1-3 June 2006. This joint conference was organised by le GRECF, University of Manchester, Centre for Canadian Studies,Birkbeck College,University of London,University of Glasgow.

Mackenzie King Conference
London, 12-13 July 2013
The annual conference of the BACS History and Politics Group will be held on Friday/Saturday 12/13 July 2013 at Senate House, University of London.
The theme of the conference will be the career of William Lyon Mackenzie King, Canada's longest serving Prime Minister (1921-1930 and 1935-1948). The aim of the confrence will be to review and discuss recent scholarship on MacKenzie King with a view to producing a volume of essays to be edited by Tony McCulloch and Hector MacKenzie.
