The  UK-Canada Cities Research Group (open to all BACS members) brings together UK researchers whose work relates to Canadian cities, including comparative urban studies. In this context, the principal objectives are to:


  • encourage synergies between diverse disciplines and practices
  • develop links between research communities in Canada and the UK
  • facilitate collaboration between researchers and practitioners
  • initiate a programme of activities and events

The following themes and perspectives are among those to be explored by the  Group:

  • urban governance
  • urban history
  • economics of urban development and regeneration
  • aboriginal people and the city
  • mobility, migrations and the cosmopolitan city
  • gender, sexuality and the city
  • cities in literature, film and other media
  • sustainable cities
  • urban cultural heritage
  • creative cities
