UK/Canada Cities Research Group PDF Print E-mail

The new UK-Canada Cities Research Group will bring together UK researchers whose work relates to Canadian cities, including comparative urban studies. In this context, the principal objectives will be to:

  • encourage synergies between diverse disciplines and practices
  • develop links between research communities in Canada and the UK
  • facilitate collaboration between researchers and practitioners
  • initiate a programme of activities and events

Initial discussion suggests that the following themes and perspectives might be explored by the new Group in 2006/7:

  • urban governance
  • urban history
  • economics of urban development and regeneration
  • aboriginal people and the city
  • mobility, migrations and the cosmopolitan city
  • gender, sexuality and the city
  • cities in literature, film and other media
  • sustainable cities
  • urban cultural heritage
  • creative cities

During the BACS 2006 annual conference in Cambridge, there will be an informal meeting to promote the proposed Group (open to all BACS members present).
